Short break charters "I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a wetted knife"

‘Avoid Mondays’ or find the true meaning of ‘dress down Fridays’ by extending your weekend into a three day short break. Adding another day or two, gives you extra time to explore the weekend locations, or the opportunity to sail to harbours further away

some suggestions for three day short breaks

Weymouth break
Sail out past the multicoloured cliffs of Alum Bay and the Needles lighthouse, across Christchurch Bay to the white chalk Old Harry Rocks and along the rugged Perbeck Heritage Coast, past Lulworth Cove and into the picturesque harbour at Weymouth. Enjoy supper in one of the many restaurants around the old harbour. Explore this holiday town with its quaint shops, sandy beaches and old forts protecting Portland Harbour. Remain in Weymouth for an extra night or move to anchor in the dramatic scenery of Lulworth Cove. Return next day to Lymington via Studland Bay the North Channel and Hirst Castle.

Cherbourg break
Start with the ebb tide and voyage out of the Solent, down the Needles Channel and at the lighthouse set course for France. Lunch as you cross the busy shipping lanes and track the succession of massive cargo vessels on radar before they appear over the horizon. Arrive in Cherbourg during the early evening in time for a relaxing meal in one of the many harbour side café’s. Next morning explore the town and visit our favourite wine warehouse and more delightful pavement cafés. Stay another night in Cherbourg or if you wish, and the tides are favourable, sail across to Alderney and overnight in the shelter of Bray Harbour. Set out early the next morning for the sail back across the Channel and into the Solent via the Needles.

Solent Sand and Sea break
Cruise the whole length of the Solent, past Cowes and on between the forts at the eastern end. Continue along the coast to Chichester Harbour and up to Itchenor. Eat an evening meal at the Ship Inn and move to East Head to anchor overnight. Next morning go ashore and walk on the golden sands of this popular yachtsman’s beach, followed by a leisurely sail round the Nab Tower and on to either Bembridge Harbour or Ryde Marina. At Ryde dry out on the sand in the Marina and maybe go the bowling alley on the water front. At Bembridge wind your way up the narrow channel into the peaceful surroundings of the Harbour and overnight on the beach by the Yacht Club. Walk around the village and visit the diving museum and the working windmill. Next morning set off on the rising tide to sail back down the Solent past Cowes to Lymington

Round the Island break
For those in search of a full days exhilarating sailing follow the route of the Round the Island Race, starting and finishing with a night at Cowes. Cross the Royal Yacht squadron start line and tack down to the Needles channel. Turn to port around the lighthouse unroll the full genoa and be involved in the often race winning tactical decision, to favour the inside route along the island shoreline or stay out in the tide but away from the wind shadow. Once round St Catherine’s Point enjoy a fast spinnaker run past the majestic white cliffs. Gybe and sail for the infamous Bembridge Ledge and the solid grey granite of Horse Sand Fort. Reach to the fort and trim the sails to work the boat back upwind to Cowes. Sweep over the finish line for a well deserved drink and dinner after sailing one of the classic yacht race courses of the world.
